Ghana Premier League matchday 14 report: Hearts of Oak thrash Olympics in Mantse derby

Published on: 11 March 2020

Hearts of Oak came away with the bragging rights after securing a 4-0 win over Great Olympics at the Accra Sports Stadium on Wednesday night.

The hosts started the match on the front foot and were rewarded for their efforts in the 15th minute. Kofi Kordzi delivered a cross from the right which was poorly handled by the Olympics goalkeeper and Joseph Esso was there to finish.

The Phobians kept the pressure up in the second period and got another goal in the 65th minute. A failed clearance from the Olympics defence left Benjamin Afutu with a chance and he headed the ball past the Olympics goalkeeper and into the net.

Edward Nii Odoom's side did not let off and scored another just three minutes after. The goalkeeper spilled a shot from Daniel Afriyie leaving the ball open to Benjamin Afutu who made no mistake from close range.

Hearts once again advanced and got a goal just before the final whistle. A header from Afutu was saved by Ayuba but Daniel Afriyie picked up the ball and slotted it in.

Olympics looked lost and deserved the loss on the night. Hearts move up to 7th with 21 points and Olympics are 15th with 16 points.
