Africa’s football giant, Ghana is returning to this year’s world cup to compete with the rest of the world after missing the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

The Black Stars painfully missed out on qualification to the last edition of the mundial and sadly watched on whiles a very entertaining tournament played out in Russia.

Keen on securing qualification for the 2022 edition of the FIFA World Cup, Ghana in the past year has put up a fight in the qualification stages.

Having progressed as leaders of Group C, the Black Stars were subsequently drawn against Nigeria on the back of a disappointing display at the 2021 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

Last Friday, the two giants of African football locked horns at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi for the first leg of the playoff tie of the African qualifiers.

Unfortunately, neither side could score as the game ended in a goalless stalemate.

Today, the second leg of the tie has been played with Ghana forcing a 1-1 draw out of Nigeria at a packed 60,000 capacity Moshood Abiola National Sports Stadium.

Courtesy of the result, Ghana’s Black Stars have qualified for the 2022 FIFA World Cup thanks to the away goal rule.

This means that the West Africans return to the world cup this year and puts behind the sorrows of missing the last edition in Russia.
