Ghana target Kobbie Mainoo receives second England call-up for Euro 2024

England manager Gareth Southgate has named English-born Ghanaian, Kobbie Mainoo, in his provisional 33-man squad for Euro 2024.

In March 2024, Mainoo earned his inaugural senior squad call-up for England's friendlies against Brazil and Belgium, transitioning from previous appearances with the under-21s.

Making his debut at 18 years old on March 23, 2024, he featured as a 75th-minute substitute in a 1–0 loss to Brazil at Wembley Stadium.

Subsequently, Mainoo secured his first England start against Belgium, garnering praise for his performance.

Despite his youth, the 19-year-old midfielder from Manchester showcased impressive skills, earning the man of the match accolade on his debut start.

While Mainoo is eligible to represent Ghana through his parents, he has already made a mark at club level and earned his maiden senior cap for England in a recent friendly match.

Nevertheless, FIFA regulations allow Mainoo to switch allegiance to Ghana as long as he hasn't participated in more than three competitive games for England before turning 21, setting the stage for a potential international tug-of-war.
