Winger Christian Atsu considering retiring from Black Stars - Reports

Winger Christian Atsu is considering retiring from international duties, Footballghana.com can reports.

The 29-year-old has been out of the Black Stars after the 2019 African Cup of Nation [Afcon] in Egypt.

The former Chelsea and FC Porto man left the camp of the Black Stars after picking up an injury in the team's second group game against Cameroon in Ismailia.

Atsu meanwhile has been excluded from Newcastle United team of the season.

The former Chelsea was hoping to secure a move during the summer transfer but couldn't reach an agreement with any of the club who cued for his services.

Last season, Atsu struggled to impress his manager and started six out of 19 games last season. He provided just three assists and failed to score a goal.

And according to a report cited by Footballghana.com, Atsu will call it a quit after the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Atsu has made just one appearance for the Magpies in the Carabao Cup.

Atsu joined Newcastle on a permanent deal from Chelsea in 2017 after playing a key role in their promotion to the Premier League.

The former Everton man has made 65 appearances for the national team scoring 9 goals.

Middlesbrough, Celtic among other clubs were interested in signing Atsu during the summer transfer window.
