Ghana international Joseph Paintsil has thanked Genk fans for the unflinching support throughout the season.

Painstil and his outfit ended the season in disappointment after losing the Belgium league title to Royal Antwerp following a 2-2 stalemate on final day.

Genk came close to winning the title but a stoppage time strike from former Tottenham Hotspurs defender Toby Alderweireld changed the narrative.

Nigerian international Toluwalase Arokodare shot Genk into the lead at the stroke of first half as the host went to recess with a one goal advantage.

After the break, Royal Antwerp leveled the pegging through Netherland interantional Gyrano Kerk in the 58th minute.

Bryan Heynen scored in the 75th minute to restore Genk’s lead but Alderweireld late strike ensured Royal Antwerp shared the spoils to clinch their first title since 1957.

After the game, Paintsil took to social media to commend the fans for the support despite bottling the title.

“Thank you, genkies, for your support throughout the season. Your cheers and encouragement have been our driving force. We couldn't grab the big prize and it hurts a lot but we also couldn’t have gotten this close without you.

“We shall be back stronger next season” he tweeted

Joseph Painstil has enjoyed an amazing season with Genk, scoring 14 goals and providing 14 assists in 30 Belgium Jupiler Pro League games.
