Ghanaian defender Baba Rahman was in action for Chelsea U-23 side as they walloped Manchester United 6-1 on Saturday in Premier League 2.

The 26-year-old lasted for 7o minutes as he helped the young Blues to go top the table over Christmas and into the New Year.

He was restored to the team after missing their last outing against Tottenham Hotspur on Monday. He provided width on the left, operating as a wingback until he was replaced by Pierre Elimby-Ekwah with Chelsea well on their way to victory against a hapless United.

The London-based side leads the PL2 Group 1 table with 22 points, three points ahead of Manchester United.

Chelsea raced into a two-goal lead after just three minutes with Marcel Lewis and Jude Soonsup-Bell scoring.

They had to wait for the 34th minute for their next goal which was scored by Tino Anjorin.

The second half provided more of the same and Anjorin struck again, this time from the spot after Tino Livramento was tripped in the box. Goals five and six were within four minutes of each other. The first, scored by Lewis, sealed a brace for the 19-year-old. Then, Charlie Brown was introduced and joined in on the act moments later.

United found a consolation five minutes from time through substitute Joe Hugill.

Rahman was left out of the Chelsea first team for the 2020/21 English Premier League by coach Frank Lampard but received a call-up to the Ghana national team for the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying double-header against Sudan in November.
