Ghanaian defender Issah Yakubu hits top form in Mali

Ghanaian defender Issah Yakubu, who plies his trade for Malian giants Stade Malien de Bamako has hit a tremendous form and is attracting the headlines in the local media.

The centre-back joined Stade Malien before the start of the 2023-24 football season from Ivorian club ES Bafing. The 25-year-old departed Ghana for Cote d'Ivoire on a free transfer after his contract with Dreams FC expired at the end of the 2021-22 campaign.

Yakubu was an instant hit in the Ivorian Ligue 1 with top-notch performances, which attracted the top sides in the country and outside but he opted to continue his career in Mali, signing for Stade Malien.

The highly-rated defender has established himself as a key member of Stade Malien outfit, playing all games so far this season. Yakubu can boast of a good disciplinary record as he is yet to be booked in the ongoing campaign.

He has already won his first silverware with Stade Malien de Bamako after helping the club to beat AS Real Bamako in the Malian Super Cup back in September.

The former Dreams FC player lasted the entire duration of the game as his outfit strolled to a 2-0 win over AS Real Bamako. Issah Yakubu was a valuable presence at the back for his side sniffing away every danger.

His outstanding performance at the back has helped his outfit to secure qualification to the group stage of the CAF Confederations Cup for the first time since 2015. He played a huge role in the preliminary round of the qualifications to propel the club to secure a spot in the group phase.

At the moment, Stade Malien de Bamako are on the summit of the Malian top-flight and the Ghanaian defender cannot be overlook here for his top-notch performance for the club in the league.

During his spell in Ghana, he had national team opportunities, featuring for the Black Galaxies.

Yakubu has tipped to be a valuable asset for the senior national soccer team, the Black Stars in the future considering his performance.
