Ghanaian defender Jordan Ayimbila has expressed his happiness following a successful first season at Malaysian side Selangor.

The 20-year-old was a consistent performer for his side, making 17 appearances and scoring one goal.

Since joining Selangor, Ayimbila has become a regular with the Red Giants in the Super League and now hopes to continue with the momentum in the Malaysia Cup.

"I’m very happy with my first season at Selangor."

"I started in the second team (Selangor II) and was promoted to the first team.

"I’m happy with my performance but I will continue to work on myself to make all fans, coaches, and teammates happy," said Ayimbila, who was mindful of the history of the Red Giants in local football.

“We expected more, Selangor are a very big club in Malaysia but we are confident that the years to come will be more successful and we are currently building something good.

“We have learned a lot this season and will continue to work on ourselves.”

Ayimbila, who featured for Accra Lions in Ghana previously, said he is comfortable playing in whatever role required by Selangor coach Karsten Neitzel.

“My actual position is leftback, I also played in that role for Accra Lions in Ghana.

“Due to my height, I have no problems playing as a central defender as well.

“I feel comfortable in both positions and I hope that I’m able to satisfy everyone in both positions. I prefer the leftback, but of course in certain situations it can be better for the team if I play as a central defender.

“In the end, the coach decides which position I play in and I agree with everything.

“The Malaysia Cup will be important. A club like Selangor have to be able to play for every title.

“We want to end the season successfully and put a smile on the faces of the fans again, so a place in the final will be nice.

“If it comes to that, anything is possible, so why not win the Cup?” he added.
