Ghanaian midfielder Umar Bashiru shortlisted for Ethiopian Premier League Player of the Year gong

Ghanaian midfielder Umar Bashiru is in contention for the Ethiopian Premier League Player of the Year award following his outstanding performance for Ethiopia Nigd Bank.

For the second time running, the former Asante Kotoko midfielder has been shortlisted for the top award in the Ehtiopian top-tier.

Bashiru was a standout performer when his outfit defied all odds to clinch the title in their maiden appearance. He racked up seven goals in 30 appearances in the league.

The Ghanaian midfielder must beat off competition from teammate Fetuhdin Abdul Karim, Chernet Gugsa of Bahir Dar FC and Kenean  Makenen who plays for Defence Force FC

Others are Shemeles of Defense Force FC, Hawasa City FC’s Ali Suleman and Biniam Woleyta of Dicha FC.

The winner for the prestigious award will be announced in August 2024.

The former Asante Kotoko, WAFA and Karela FC midfielder is in his second season with  Ethiopia Nigd Bank.
