English-born Ghanaian midfielder Wesley Fonguck scored in Southend United's 2-0 win against Maidenhead United.

Despite dominating for extended portions of the game, the Blues were unable to break down the Magpies, due partly to many saves by Craig Ross.

Kevin Maher's side dominated the second half and were denied an opening by the woodwork when an Oli Coker free-kick escaped everyone and smacked the post.

With just under 20 minutes remaining, Jack Wood was shoved over in the area, and Bridge converted the resultant spot-kick.

Then, as the game entered injury time, Wesley Fonguck ensured that the three points remained in Essex with a magnificent single shot that beat Ross from a tight angle.

The midfielder dribbled past two Maidenhead defenders on the left before bursting into the penalty area and blasting into the far corner.

This was Fonguck’s second goal in three games.
