Ghana highest all-time goal scorer Asamoah Gyan says he wants to a mark in the Indian Super League following an impressive start to his career at NorthEast United.

Gyan has scored three goals in six games for NorthEast United and is eyeing a legendary status in India.

Having been criticised for the move to India, the 34-year-old claims his move to the ISL could pave the way for other big stars to join him.

"That is what I want to do, leave a legacy," he told Hindustan Times. "When I moved to China (Shanghai SPIG in 2015), there was a lot of criticism, but now a lot of good players are moving there," he added.

"And I hope me being in India can open doors to more players. Because the league is getting stronger. But if somebody regards me degrading the league than we are not helping the league.”

The former Sunderland striker joined the ISL side in the summer after a disappointing 2019 Africa Cup of Nations with the Black Stars.

Ghana exited the competition at the Round of 16 stage on penalties to Tunisia.

Gyan says he will be available for the senior national team any time he is needed.

"When the time comes and I am available, why not? I am available for Ghana right now," he stated.
