Ghanaian defender Koffi Amankwaa Akurugu has completed a loan move to Spanish club Unión Esportiva Cornellà.

The 21-year-old, seeking increased playing time in the upcoming season, has joined the third-tier side on a season-long loan from La Liga outfit Getafe CF.

Akurugu's ambition to secure more minutes led him to this move. Despite being part of La Liga's Getafe CF last season, he did not make a single appearance for the first team.

His opportunities were limited, with only one occasion when he made the bench, during a clash against UD Almeria.

In the past season, Akurugu was involved with the the Getafe CF B team, featuring in six matches during the Promoción de ascenso a Segunda Federación, the Spanish third-tier promotion playoffs.

The young left-back made his senior debut for Getafe CF on August 29, 2021, stepping onto the field as a substitute for six minutes in a match against FC Barcelona at the iconic Camp Nou.

Akurugu's potential was evident as he earned his first La Liga start on October 10 of the same year, contributing an assist in Getafe's 2-1 victory over RCD Espanyol at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez.
