Despite a strong effort from Ghanaian winger Prosper Kassim, Birmingham Legion FC succumbed to a 3-1 defeat against Rhode Island FC in the USL Championship.

Kassim, who started the match at the Protective Stadium, played a crucial role in Birmingham's sole goal of the game.

The match kicked off with Rhode Island's Noah Fuson scoring a left-footed goal from the right side of the box in the first minute. The assist was provided by Albert Dikwa.

The second half saw a glimmer of hope for Birmingham Legion FC when Kassim scored a stunning left-footed goal from the right side of the box in the 50th minute. The goal was a result of a swift counter-attack, with Dawson McCartney providing the assist.

However, Rhode Island FC regained control of the match with Zach Herivaux scoring two consecutive goals in the 68th and 77th minutes. The first goal was a right-footed shot from the center of the box, assisted by JJ Williams, and the second was a powerful right-footed shot from outside the box, assisted by Stephen Turnbull.

Kassim, who was substituted in the 78th minute, has been a key player for Birmingham Legion FC this season. He has played 18 games, scored twice, and provided one assist in the 2024 USL Championship. Fellow Ghanaian Mensah Nyarko came on in the 78th minute to replace Jake Rufe for Birmingham Legion FC.
