Ghana's Thomas-Asante “couldn’t have asked for more” after salvaging point for West Brom

English-born Ghanaian striker Brandon Thomas-Asante is elated after scoring for West Bromwich Albion in their 1-1 draw with Burnley in the Championship on Friday.

The 23-year-old climbed off the bench to scramble in a 98th-minute equaliser to seal a point for his side.

Thomas-Asante joined West Brom from Salford City on a three-year deal and arrived in a rich vein of form, having netted five goals in seven appearances so far this season.

“I can’t say that I’ve ever had a feeling like that in football,” he said as quoted by the club's official website.

“Even just coming out for the warm-up was an amazing feeling. Under the lights, amazing fans. That attendance - we were saying the other day that I’ve played in front of a few crowds but nothing like today.

“It was incredible. The atmosphere, the way the game went. I couldn’t have asked for more.

“When the 90th minute came up, I thought ‘oh my days, a goal now would be unreal’. You can’t always bank that the chance is going to come, but it did today and I’m so thankful.

“It was one of those where I did contemplate whether I was going to strike it or not. I was off balance and I saw someone was near me, and thought maybe I should try and lay it off to them.

“But then I thought you know what - go for it and see what happens. Sometimes as a striker you do those things and at times like now they come off. There might be times where it doesn’t, but I’m always going to beat the door down and do my best.

“That chemistry with the supporters from the off is something that strikers pray for.

“I’m so grateful to the fans. They’ve really taken to me on social media. I know they’ve been speaking with the Salford fans who passed it on, and hopefully I can repay them.

“Not just with one goal, but hopefully two and three, and we’ll see what can happen. It’s not an easy thing to do, so I just want to get my head down in the week and work, as well as get to know the boys a bit more. They’ve been amazing to me in these first days.”
