Ghanaian midfielder Gilbert Koomson has been handed a debut Black Stars call-up after making 24 league appearances for Sogndal in 26 games this season.

The former national U-17 star was the only debutant in Avram Grant's 23-man squad.

Footballghana.com's sources reveal that Koomson is unlikely to see game time in Ghana's World Cup qualifier with Uganda but will be given a try in a friendly against South Africa.

The tough-tackling midfielder has scored three goals in 24 league appearances attracting three yellow cards for ninth placed Sogndal.

Interestingly, although a midfielder, he has scored the same number of goals with compatriot Mahatma Otoo.

Koomson previously played for Thai sides BEC Tero Sasana and Samut Songkhhram in Thailand.
