Giroud Has No Doubt He Will Regain His Place in Arsenal Set-Up: I Will Come Back Even Stronger

Published on: 12 November 2016

Arsenal forward Olivier Giroud has backed himself to regain his place in Arsene Wenger's side after losing out to Alexis Sanchez for the striking position.

The Frenchman hasn't started a single Premier League match this season, coming off the bench for all of his five appearances. Sanchez, meanwhile, has held down the striker's spot quite confidently, and has eight goals to his name this term.

It doesn't look like there's a place for Giroud in this set up, but the forward is certain he will force his way back into Wenger's thinking. He is in fine form for France, though, having scored eight times for his country since the start of the year.

He has three Arsenal goals to his name this season, and insists that there are no doubts over his future at the club.

"I do not have any doubts about my future at Arsenal," he recently said to Telefoot (H/T the Mirror).

"There is always competition for places. There are a lot of attackers at every big club.

At the moment, the coach prefers Sanchez up front, also because I have been injured. I just hope to get playing time again now.

"Alexis and I are different types of attackers and the coach has to make a decision. But I intend to come back even stronger."

France boss Didier Deschamps has also given the player a vote of confidence, but acknowledges he isn't 100 per cent (Daily Mail).

"He [Giroud] is not 100 per cent fit, I know it and he knows it too," he said.

"He has started one match [this season] because he was injured, and that is why he couldn't be with us last month. But do not interpret that in one way or in another.

"I took him in September even though he hadn't played, and he played the first and the second game.

"I know what Olivier is able to do and Kevin [Gameiro] too. All this plays a part in my thinking."
