Borussia Mönchengladbach chief Max Eberl has reaffirmed hopes of keeping hold of Andreas Christensen.

The Denmark defender's two-year loan with Gladbach is coming to an end and he is expected to return to parent club Chelsea this summer.

However, Eberl insists there remains hope of working a third season with Christensen.

He said: "The fact that Chelsea want Andreas, who has made a major development step with us, back in the first place, is nevertheless logical.

"Do we know how the plans are there in the end? If there is a possibility, we have a foot in the door, at Chelsea, but also with Andreas. I say it this way: The fight is not yet hopeless. Already, it can create a situation where we can get back on track."
