GOC President says GFA cannot bare the cost if football returns

Ghana Olympic committee President Ben Nunoo Mensah believes the Ghana Football Association cannot bare the cost if football activities resume.

There has been no football in country since the suspension of sporting activities in March amid the Covid-19.

The Ghana Football Association is yet to outline its plans on how football can return safely, however the FA would prefer to restart in October.

The European leagues have employed wide-ranging health protocols to ensure a safe restart of football - the Premier League alone investing £4m to acquire coronavirus testing kit, with each club testing 40 players and staff twice a week - Ghana does not have the money or capacity for such measures.

"The cost in testing every player or athlete for COVID-19 in Ghana is calculated to be around $120 per person. I think is not safe to start football," Nunoo Mensah told Silver FM.

The 2019/20 football season was cancelled by the GFA following a marathon of meeting as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
