GPL winner required to have a Women’s team before participation in CAF Champions League

It is possible that no Ghanaian club will play in the CAF Champions League next season.

This is because of the directive from CAF to all member associations indicating that clubs that will participate in the 2023/24 CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup need to have a women’s football team.

The directive notes that only clubs with women’s football teams will be granted the license to take part in the two continental inter-club competitions.

The 2022/23 Ghana Premier League season is scheduled to come to an end in the coming weekend.

Potentially, two clubs including Medeama SC and Bechem United could be crowned Champions of the league depending on the results from their respective final games of the season.

The worry now is whether the potential champion has a women’s team required to secure the certificate to participate in the 2023/24 CAF Champions League.

Meanwhile, clubs have until June 30 to secure the license for next season’s Champions League.
