Griezmann sets future deadline

Published on: 18 June 2018

Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann says he will make a decision about his club future before he heads to the World Cup finals with France.

The 27-year-old frontman was heavily linked with an Atleti exit last summer, only for him to stay put and agree a contract extension which tied him to the Madrid club until the summer of 2022.

My future will be decided before the World Cup.

In recent times he has been heavily linked with a switch to Barcelona and Griezmann says he will not allow such talk to rumble on and potentially affect his play for Les Bleus in Russia.

He told L'Equipe: "My future will be decided before the World Cup. I want to go to Russia with a clear head, I think that's what everyone wants.

"It's not a question of knowing where I'll play, which can also be boring, but rather the fact of receiving calls at a delicate time.

"I told my sister that I'd make my decision about staying in Madrid before leaving for Russia."

Griezmann joined Atleti from Real Sociedad in the summer of 2014 and has since scored 106 goals in 198 appearances in all competitions, helping them reach the Champions League final in 2016.

On the international stage he has netted 19 goals in 49 appearances for France and was part of the squad who reached the European Championship finals on home soil in the summer of 2016.

France, drawn alongside Denmark, Peru and Australia, are 3/10 to win Group C at the World Cup finals, while they are 11/4 to lose in the quarter-finals and 4/1 to be beaten in the semi-finals.
