Gutsy comeback thrills Vardy

Published on: 25 November 2018

Jamie Vardy was pleased with the character Leicester City showed as they came back to draw 1-1 at Brighton despite having James Maddison sent off.

Substitute Vardy scored a 79th-minute penalty after Glenn Murray had headed the Seagulls into an early lead.

After Brighton had scored, Maddison was sent off for two bookable offences but the Foxes showed great spirit to frustrate their hosts for over an hour before grabbing a late equaliser.

"I think it was a good point to get," Vardy said afterwards. "Obviously, being down to 10 men and 1-0 down, you've seen how the lads have battled together and how we've taken it to Brighton.

"I think with that performance, especially in the second half, we definitely deserved it.

"I had a slight knock and didn't train fully until Thursday, so I understand what the gaffer [Claude Puel] wanted.

"He's brought me on in the second half and I felt fresh when I came on and he's brought Kel [Kelechi Iheanacho] on as well who has got the penalty.

"If you look at the performance in the second half, if there was anyone who was going to get the win in the end it would have probably been us but we'll take a point."

Leicester are 10/11 to finish in the top half of the Premier League table this season, while Vardy can be backed at 11/10 to score at any time in the Carabao Cup clash against Southampton on Tuesday.
