The former coach of the Black Stars, Avram Grant has confessed that Asamoah Gyan possessed all the needed qualities as a striker.

Gyan made his debut for the senior national team in 2003 and has gone on to score 51 goals so far in 109 appearances. He also possesses the record of the most goals by an African in a world cup tournament (6).

During his glittering career, he made the CAF team of the year three times and clinched the BBC African Footballer of the year in 2010. Grant managed Gyan from 2014 to 2017 where the striker scored a number of goals for him in friendlies and AFCON competitions (2015 and 2017).

“Asamoah Gyan had one of the biggest qualities I have ever seen in my life because he has everything as a striker,” Grant said in an interview.

The former Portsmouth coach added, “He has the passion to score, he can score with his feet [and] his head. He is very good mentally. I’m sure you remember the 2015 AFCON game against Algeria – the goal he scored in the last minute."

Gyan is currently looking for a club after his contract with Indian side Northeast United ended.
