The 27-year-old began his professional career with Birmingham City in 2008, before moving to Cardiff City in 2012 and then transferred to Queens Park Rangers for a one-year stint in 2014.

In 2015, Mutch signed with Crystal Palace, where he was loaned out to Reading and Vancouver Whitecaps FC in the United States.

Gyeongnam FC turned heads in 2017 when they were promoted to the K League 1 and finished their 2018 season behind six-time league champions Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors to earn their debut appearance in the Continental club tournament.
