Hamburger SV has announced its first decisions for the upcoming season, with one notable departure being Stephan Ambrosius.

The defender will be leaving the club at the end of the season, marking the end of his 12-year tenure with the Elbe-based team.

Ambrosius joined Hamburger SV from FC St. Pauli at the age of 13 and gradually developed into a promising talent in central defense. He made his Bundesliga debut at the age of 18 under Christian Titz and was soon promoted to the professional team. Ambrosius was seen as one of the young talents in the 2nd Bundesliga on which HSV wanted to build its new team.

However, his career was hampered by two cruciate ligament tears, which slowed down his progress. In the 2022/23 season, Ambrosius was loaned to Karlsruher SC to gain match practice. He then returned to Hamburg under Tim Walter, but the central defender was not given much playing time.

After 49 competitive games for the Hamburg team, Ambrosius' contract will not be renewed, and he will be leaving the club in the summer. It is not yet known where the Ghana international will be heading next.

Ambrosius' departure marks the end of an era for the defender, who has been with the club for over a decade.
