The 30-year-old former Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Esperance fullback was expected to win the award after he picked up the same award from MLSsoccer.com.

Harrison Afful in his second season in the MLS showcased both his high defensive skills as well as his ability to support the offense in the 2016 MLS season and has earned the club’s Defender of the Year award.
