Harry Kane's World Cup heroics no shock to Eric Dier

Eric Dier is not surprised to see England team-mate Harry Kane top the goalscoring charts at this year's World Cup and insists the free-scoring striker is still improving.

England skipper Kane has netted five goals in the tournament, one more than Cristiano Ronaldo and Romelu Lukaku. Kane could line up against Golden Boot rival Lukakau when England take on Belgium on Thursday with top spot in Group G at stake.

Asked about the form of his Tottenham and England colleague, Dier said: "I'm not surprised, no. Everyone knows by now."

"It is funny how people still talk about Harry in the way that you are still supposed to be surprised by it."

"He has been doing it at a consistent level now for a long time and continues to improve."

"He has a fantastic work ethic and attitude and is extremely driven."

"It has been a fantastic tournament for him so far and hopefully he can continue to play a massive part in the tournament for England and I believe he has an even better level as well."

Dier himself admitted he has been chomping at the bit to be involved, as have all of those players who are yet to feature in Russia.

"Obviously not just myself but the 12 players that aren't playing, it is only natural we want to play," Dier said.

"It is normal, it is one of the reasons we get to where we do because we have a competitive nature."

"We have to respect that, keep pushing, I think that is what the players have been doing."

"That has been the mentality of the players who have not been in the starting XI, keep working at the best of our ability."
