Hearts of Oak captain Gladson Awako denies leaving club

Experienced midfielder Gladson Awako has rubbished media reports of his departure from Hearts of Oak, saying he is still a player of the club.

Earlier reports suggested Awako and the Phobians have reached agreement to go their separate ways ahead of the start of the 2023/24 season despite having a year left on his existing contract.

But in an interview with Kumasi-based Akoma FM, the 2009 FIFA World Cup winner downplayed such reports, asking the public to treat it with the needed contempt it deserves.

“At the moment I'm still a player of hearts of Oak, I have 14-15 months left. We don't have a coach for now, a new coach might come with a new philosophy but I m happy to captain this great team”

“All I will say for now is that, I'm still a Hearts of Oak player, when the season start we the fans should expect different team performance, we will give out our best as we have been doing always to make the club great again”

Awako has established himself as a key cog to the Phobians since his arrival, helping the club to annex a couple of trophies including the FA Cup and President Cup.

The experienced midfielder was named as captain of the club after the departure of Fatawu Mohammed.
