Hearts of Oak forward Afriyie Barnieh concedes GPL title hopes are over; targets MTN FA Cup

Daniel Afriyie Barnieh has admitted for the first time that Hearts of Oak's hopes of retaining their Ghana Premier League title are over and has set sights on winning the MTN FA Cup.

Hearts of Oak trail leaders and arch-rivals Asante Kotoko by 12 points with  six matches left to play.

However, the Phobians have progressed to the final of this season's MTN FA Cup following their 3-2 win over Dreams FC at the Accra Sports stadium on Saturday.

Speaking on the team's chances of retaining the league title, the 20-year-old told StarTimes, "I take it match after match.

"I think this season, we’ve lost one trophy though the league is not yet over but if you calculate the matches left and the points I think I will say the probability of we losing one trophy is higher."

"So we we’ve talked to ourselves and decided to keep this trophy so you can see us throughout the game that our mentality and everything is to maintain the FA Cup so we are all going out."

Hearts of Oak will face 2015/16 champions Bechem United in the final at the Baba Yara stadium on June 26, 2022.
