Former Accra Hearts of Oak captain, Amankwah Mireku, has raised the stakes, asserting that no player of his caliber has graced the revered Hearts of Oak squad since its inception.

Amankwah Mireku spent 10 years with Hearts of Oak before joining Indian top-flight club Viva Kerala in 2007.

Amankwah Mireku signed a deal with Pure Joy Stars in January 2008 but left the club after eleven months to join Wa All Stars in December 2008.

From 2001 to 2005, Amankwah Mireku appeared in 16 games for the Black Stars. On March 11, 2001, he made his senior national team debut against Nigeria.

During his stint at Hearts of Oak, he led the club to the CAF Champions League, CAF Confederation Cup, CAF Super Cup, six league titles, and two FA Cup trophies.

“Hearts of Oak have never had a player of my calibre since its inception. I can say that I have been the greatest captain since 1911," Amankwah Mireku said on Kessben FM as quoted by Getsportsgh.com

"I played an integral role in winning the CAF Champions League, Confederation Cup, Super Cup, six league titles among others. No player has achieved that in the club’s history,” he added.
