Henry Asante Twum explains why Jonathan Sowah was not called for Black Stars friendlies against US and Mexico

Ghana Football Association's spokesman, Henry Asante Twum, shed light on the conspicuous absence of Medeama sensation Jonathan Sowah from the Black Stars' squad for their upcoming friendlies against the United States and Mexico.

Sowah, who left spectators ecstatic with his standout performance in the friendly clash against Liberia, was notably missing from the call up list, prompting inquiries from fans.

According to Asante Twum, Sowah's non-inclusion in the squad was not a reflection of his prowess on the pitch but rather a strategic move. The talented player is currently an integral part of Medeama's lineup for their forthcoming friendly against DC United, a fixture that holds significant weight for the club.

Furthermore, Asante Twum revealed that Jonathan Sowah's exceptional form had not gone unnoticed by the Black Stars' management. Sowah had been placed on Chris Hughton's standby list.

"In every call up when the coach does his team in every position he places one or two players on standby. From the initial list that he submitted Jonathan was in the list but on standby," he told Peace FM as monitored by Footballghana.com

"Normally they will wait for all the leagues to end during the weekend and when there is an injury then quickly another player will come in.

"What happened is Medeama as I speak to you they are on their way to Washington as Ghanaian champions they are going to play a game because of the challenges they had with visa acquisition the club told the FA to release Fatawu so that they will us him for their friendly game then he will return to the Black Stars group," he added.
