HIGHLIGHTS: Angola labour to defeat Ghana 1-0 to end decades of home invincibility
Ghana 0-1 Angola

Angola scored late in injury time on Thursday evening to see off Ghana with a 1-0 win to kick off their campaign in the qualifiers for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

The win saw Angola handing Ghana a first defeat at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in 24 years, bringing an end to over two decades of home invincibility at the Kumasi venue.

In the first half, Angola sat back and soaked the pressure from the Black Stars without being required to do so much.

With no goals in the half, the Black Stars returned from the break determined to get on the scoresheet.

Mohammed Kudus, 23, in the first 10 minutes of the second half tried his luck from distance and came close to scoring in the 57th but was denied by a very good save from the Angola goalkeeper.

Later in the 75th minute, Jordan Ayew was put through on goal but his shot was blocked by an Angola defender, ensuring that the two sides had it all to play for in the final 15 minutes.

In the last 10 minutes of the game, Ghana coach Otto Addo introduced Majeed Ashimeru and Joseph Paintsil into the game in a bid to bolster his attack in search of a goal.

Despite the strong push made by the Black Stars in the last five minutes of the contest, the team could not score and had to pay for it at full time as a late strike from Felício Mendes João Milson secured a hard-fought 1-0 win for the Palancas Negras.
