Higuain finally brings AC Milan drought to an end

There may be fewer relieved players going into 2019 than Gonzalo Higuain after the AC Milan striker brought his barren spell to an end, allowing him to look ahead with confidence once more.

His goal on Saturday night against SPAL was an important one too, helping the Rossoneri to end their own winless run by bagging the winning goal in the second half of a 2-1 victory.

The anxiety around ‘El Pipita’ finally lifted after what has been a difficult spell of late which saw him go a concerning 866 minutes without finding the back of the net.

Higuain had last celebrated a goal during Milan’s clash with Sampdoria on October 28, over two months ago, which was a period that seemed like an eternity for a player of the Argentine’s undoubted quality.

His night didn’t start too well and the frustration that the Rossoneri supporters have shown with him recently was evident early on when he was whistled by the home fans for the first time after looking lethargic and clumsy in the early going.

Even with a player of his quality, patience was beginning to wear somewhat thin after the club put much of their faith in returning to the Champions League on his shoulders.

However, he turned those boos to whistles in the second half with his vital goal and things immediately turned with the San Siro faithful singing his praises immediately in the hope that their main man is back on track.
