Hiram Boateng grabbed an assist in Mansfield Town's 2-0 win against Grimsby in the EFL Cup on Tuesday at the One Call Stadium.
The Stags made a strong start and dominated the whole game.
Early on, Bowery hit Toby Mullarkey from the left of the box, and after a corner, Louis Reed shot wide on the other side of the 18-yard box.
Then, Grimsby was unable to take advantage of a counterattack that resulted in Charles Vernam hitting a pointless low shot into goalkeeper Christy Pym's hands.
After 27 minutes, the Stags were handed a penalty kick.
Harvey Cartwright, the Grimsby goalkeeper, took a heavy touch from a backpass within his area, and as Oates sought to capitalize, the shot-stopper pulled him to the ground.
Lucas Akins delivered from 12 yards out, beating the goalkeeper with a right-footed strike into the bottom right corner.
Rhys Oates's right footed shot from the centre of the box to the bottom left corner extended Mansfield Town's lead to 2-0. Rhys Oates goal was assisted by Hiram Boateng.
Mansfield Town will now turn their attention to their League Two game against Morecambe.
