Hiram Boateng has been named in Sofascore's League Two team of the week for his outstanding performance for Mansfield Town in the match week 43 game against Newport County.

The 27-year-old scored and assisted in Mansfield Town's hard-fought 2-1 win against Newport County on Tuesday evening.

After a shaky start, Newport created the game's first opportunity after 16 minutes.

Mickey Demetriou's long throw from the right wing was flicked outside the box by Stags. Charlie McNeil's curling right-footed attempt sailed past the angle from there.

Scot Bennett of County was the first player to get a yellow card, four minutes later, after chopping down midfielder Hiram Boateng within the Stags' half.

Jordan Bowery pushed Callum Johnson's short pass from the right toward Hiram Boateng on the right side of the Newport box. And Boateng smashed his way past two County defenders to poke into the bottom left-hand corner to make it 1-0.

Mansfield countered Newport, led by Hiram Boateng, who sprinted through the middle to set up James Gale on the left.

And the striker from the edge of the box displayed great technique and poise to move the ball from left to right foot before curling wonderfully into the far corner to extend Mansfield's advantage.

Stephen McLaughlin replaced Hiram Boateng in the 81st minute.

Aaron Wildig scored the consolation goal for Newport County in the 86th minute.
