How Richard Ofori compares to Orlando Pirates goalkeepers

Published on: 25 May 2020

Orlando Pirates are looking to bolster their goalkeeping department with Maritzburg United’s Richard Ofori on their radar. However, how does the Ghanaian compare to Bucs’ current goalkeepers?

Ofori by his own admission said that he is not the same goalie he was three years ago. The Ghanaian has solidified the Maritzburg United number one jersey and helped the team survive a possible relegation.

The 26-year-old’s performances have not gone unnoticed with both Mamelodi Sundowns and Pirates said to be keen on the lanky star.

If Ofori were to join the Buccaneers, he would have to compete with the likes of Wayne Sandilands, Siyabonga Mpontshane and Joris Delle.

With 10 Absa Premiership clean sheets in the 22 matches he has played this season, Ofori has a better record than Sandilands who has kept eight. Ofori also conceded one less goal, 17, than the veteran goalie on 18.

Joris Delle was brought in as a replacement for the departed Jackson Mabokgwane but his failure to keep a clean sheet in any of the four matches he has played this season has seen him become a regular on the bench, the Frenchman has also shockingly conceded 11 goals in that period.

Mpontshane is yet to kick a ball for Pirates this campaign and has been linked with an exit from the club.

At 26, Ofori is also a much younger campaigner than Sandilands, 36, Mpontshane, 34, and Delle, 30.
