Howe hopeful Defoe will be fit for Bournemouth opener

Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe has revealed that striker Jermaine Defoe is struggling with a groin problem, but he should be fit for the league opener next weekend.

The Cherries will kick off the new season with a trip to West Brom on Saturday.

After watching his side play out a 2-2 friendly draw with Napoli on Sunday, Howe provided the latest injury-update, "Nathan Ake's fine, he played against Yeovil in midweek.

"Jermain felt his groin slightly so we didn't risk him but we anticipate he'll be fine for West Brom.

"We took Steve Cook off as a precaution so we'll wait and see."
