Howe making late Fraser decision

Published on: 19 October 2018

Bournemouth head coach Eddie Howe will make a late decision on whether in-form forward Ryan Fraser is fit enough to feature against Southampton this weekend.

The Scotland international has been playing with a slight hamstring problem for a number of weeks and Howe is unsure about whether to risk Fraser in the South Coast derby clash at Dean Court on Saturday.

Howe told reporters at his pre-match press briefing: "We will have to see with Ryan, he's been carrying a hamstring injury for last three four weeks and it will be a late call on him.

"If not this match, then hopefully the next one, it isn't long term."

The Cherries can be backed at 21/20 to defeat Southampton on Saturday and are 10/1 to win the game 2-0, with David Brooks 11/4 to score at any time and find the net for a third game in a row.

Meanwhile, Howe has played down rumours linking Dutch central defender Nathan Ake with interest from Tottenham Hotspur.

He added: "I think that's a compliment to Nathan and how he's played since he signed for us permanently. He's been a model of consistency.

"With any type of speculation that you are linked with, the clubs he's been mentioned with, it's a good sign. However, that doesn't mean we're about to lose him. He's a massive part of what we're doing.

"I look at it as compliment to the team. It certainly won't disrupt Nathan, knowing how level-headed he is."

Netherlands international Ake joined the Cherries permanently in the summer of 2017, having spent the previous season on loan at Dean Court.
