Executive Council Member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Nana Oduro Sarfo, has spoken about the appointment of Chris Hughton as the new head coach of the Black Stars, stating that Hughton proved himself through his role as technical director of the team.

Sarfo revealed the GFA had conversations with Hughton before appointing him as the technical director, and were impressed with his desire to work for Ghana.

According to Sarfo, Hughton's success in the technical director role led to his appointment as the new head coach of the Black Stars.

"The man was interested. We had the opportunity to talk to the man; about three people spoke to the man one-on-one and we saw that the man had the desire to work for Ghana," Sarfo said in an interview with Joy Sports.

"Then we said ok, we want to make you the technical advisor to be with the team so at least we can monitor you from there. He came out successful and we picked him."

Hughton, a former Brighton and Hove Albion coach, was appointed to assist Otto Addo in preparing the Black Stars for the 2022 World Cup playoffs and the tournament itself in Qatar later this year.
