The Seagulls, who are looking forward to their debut season in Premier League, equalised twice in the game before losing out to Lucas Hernandez's last-minute winner in the 3-2 result.

Following the game, Hughton said: "It was a really good game for us. Certainly, going into our game against Manchester City next week; we couldn't have had a more similar test.

"I'm really pleased that Atletico Madrid agreed to come and I'd like to think that they got some good value from being here as well.

"Overall, I was happy with what I saw from us. But what Atletico showed was the quality that they've got on the ball, right throughout the pitch."
