Hughton staying out of England debate surrounding Brighton defender Dunk

Published on: 06 November 2017

Brighton & Hove Albion manager Chris Hughton is not willing to involve himself in discussions about Lewis Dunk earning a call-up for the England national team.

Dunk's wonderful performances in helping the Seagulls to a fine start to the season had led to calls for the defender being included in the England national team but Hughton does not want anything to do with such a debate.

He said: "When it comes to international selection for any of our players, that's the responsibility of those managers.

"All I can talk about is how well Lewis has done for us. He's been outstanding and credit to Lewis because, even before my time here, he's got better and better as each season has gone.

"Even some of the parts of his game which he needed to improve on, he's gone and done that. He's done it through hard work himself. He's been excellent."
