I am happy my assist won the game for Ghana against Central African Republic - Antoine Semenyo

A.F.C. Bournemouth striker, Antoine Semenyo has expressed his excitement after providing an assist in Ghana's win against the Central African Republic (CAR).

In the final round of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, Ghana hosted CAR at the Baba Yara Stadium.

However, Louis Mafouta scored the away side in the early minutes of the game before Mohammed Kudus scored from a free kick to level the Black Stars up before the end of the first half.

Despite Ghana needing a draw to qualify, CAR proved to be a difficult side for Chris Hughton and his side.

However, Semenyo who was brought on in the second half assisted Ernest Nuamah to score the winner after his square pass located the Lyon forward in the 18-yard box as the Black Stars finished the qualifiers as Group E winners with 12 points.

Speaking after the team's qualification for the tournament that will be hosted in Ivory Coast next year, Semenyo said it was a good game and was happy his assist won the game for the Black Stars despite the opposition proving to be difficult.

'It was a good and tough game. The pitch was not that good and the opposition also surprised us because they were really good and they caught us by surprise and so I am happy to say I came on and I provided an assist for the winner so I can't complain," he said on Tuesday ahead of their EFL Cup against Stoke City scheduled for later tonight.

Ghana will discover its group opponents for the tournament on October 12. The Black Stars will hope to end the country's 41-year trophyless jinx.
