Ghanaian international Aaron Opoku is elated to join German Bundesliga 2 club FC Kaiserslautern in the on-going summer transfer window.

The 23-year-old joins the club from fellow Bundesliga II side Hamburg SV for the 2022-23 season.

At FC Kaiserslautern, Opoku will have the chance to play regularly and is expected to play a key role for the side this term.

"Everything turned out the way it was supposed to and I'm very happy that I've arrived in Kaiserslautern," he said after putting pen to paper.

"I can't wait to play for FCK at the Betzenberg and I will do my best to be successful with my team and for the club."

Born in Hamburg, he started playing football with the Hamburger Turnerschaft before moving to the youth academy at HSV at the age of 12.

After he had gone through all the youth teams at Rothosen, he signed his first professional contract with HSV in the summer of 2018.

In order to gain more playing time, he was loaned out to FC Hansa Rostock, SSV Jahn Regensburg and VfL Osnabrück for the past three seasons.

In his professional career so far, Opoku has gained experience in 25 second division games (1 goal, 2 assists) and 65 third division games (8 goals, 21 assists).

In the past season at VfL Osnabrück, he registered 15 assists and was the third best assist provider in the 3rd division.

He has made seven appearances for Germany U-19 and U-20 sides.
