I didn’t apply for Black Stars job because people will drag Kurt Okraku - Karim Zito
GFA President, Kurt Okraku.

U20 Africa Cup of Nations winning coach in 2021, Abdul Karim Zito, says he did not apply for the Black Stars coaching job because people will bring Kurt Okraku into the conversation.

He believes his association with the Ghana Football Association President has become a hindrance for him in terms of applying for the national team coaching job.

Karim Zito currently coaches the Kurt Okraku’s team, Dreams FC and is also the national U15 coach of Ghana.

Speaking to Asempa FM as monitored by footballghana.com, Zito said, “In the first place, I did not apply. Of late, those of us who are affiliated to Kurt Okraku are victims of circumstances.

“If I had applied people will say it is because Kurt Okraku is the GFA President that is why I applied. So I decided not to apply at all.”

The Ghana Football Association had opened up the job for interested coaches to apply, and said over 600 coaches submitted applications at the close of the deadline.

This process was initiated following the sacking of Chris Hughton after Ghana’s abysmal performance at the 2023 AFCON.

The three weeks given to the search committee have elapsed but no announcement has been made yet.
