I didn't think I will be a coach- Michael Essien

Former Black Stars midfielder Michael Essien has revealed that he initially didn't think he will venture into coaching.

But, as he neared the end of his career, he decided to give it a try and eventually he started to like it.

"I didn't think I would make the transition. When I was playing I always said 'no I don't want to be a coach' but when you love the game so much you always try to be in the game," he told The Football Ramble Podcast.

"So two or three years ago I said I am coming toward the end of my career and I want to learn about the coaching side of the game and it will give me the opportunity to be on the pitch and to be around the players."

He is now assistant coach of Nordsjaelland in Denmark.
