I felt dizzy, realised my bp was rising – Mali coach recounts ordeal after Cote d’Ivoire’s late goal at 2023 AFCON

The head coach of Mali, Sekou Chelle has opened up on how he struggled to come to terms with his side conceding a late goal against Cote d’Ivoire in the quarter-finals of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

In a game Mali looked set to win after scoring first, the hosts playing with 10 men came from behind to secure a 2-1 win at the end of extra time.

After the game, a video of coach Sekou Chelle went viral when one of the backroom staff was captured pouring water on his head.

Opening up on what he was going through, Coach Sekou Chelle says he felt dizzy and realised his BP was fast rising.

"After the Elephants' second goal, I started to feel dizzy, my blood pressure was rising.

"Thankfully, my compatriot poured enough water on my head to stabilize my blood pressure,” coach Sekou Chelle said.

At the 2023 AFCON, Cote d’Ivoire after beating Mali went on to lift the trophy after beating Nigeria in the finals.
