Ghana international forward Jordan Ayew has disclosed that he has been playing out of position for both club and country for some time now.

In recent times, Ayew has been deployed as a winger at club level and national team level.

However, after scoring four goals in two matches for the Black Stars in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers at the lead striker, the 32-year-old says he has been playing out of position.

He emerged as the hero in Mali when the Black Stars cruised to a 2-1 win over the Eagles in Bamako. He climbed off the bench to net the match winner in injury time.

Notably, Ayew recorded a hat trick on his 100th cap for Ghana against Central African Republican marking his second hat trick for the national team.

Speaking after the game, Ayew revealed he has been playing out of position for time now as club and national team level.

"I've been playing out of position for quite some time in the national team and also at the club level. But I have always done my duty, put my country first, and never complained because I always give my all."

"It's difficult. It's not something that I like to talk about, but obviously, my favorite position right from the academy, in France, and in the national team has always been as a number 9."

"I understand because I have qualities that allow me to play in the pockets of spaces, and I don't complain."
