The Chairperson of the Black Queens Management Committee, Gifty Oware-Mensah has issued a press release to clarify comments made during her Joy Sports interview where she compared the Black Queens and the Black Stars.

In the interview, she said the love for the male national team among Ghanaians is much more than the women national team gets, adding that the disparity in bonuses paid to the two national teams is justified.

"The male team is the one that dominates the love and affection from the country.

“I find it quite worrying when I see people try to compare their treatment vis a vis the women’s team,” Oware-Mensah told Joy Sports.

In her release to clarify issues, Gifty Oware-Mensah said “My attention has been drawn to certain statements I made during an interview with Joy Sports which have been taken out of context, particularly with reference to the comparison between the Black Queens and the Black Stars.”

She indicated that it appears that her comments have been misconstrued to suggest a diminishing view of the Black Queens.

“I will like to clarify that I hold the utmost respect for the Black Queens and recognize their invaluable contributions to Ghanaian football. The intention was not to undermine the achievements of the Black Queens but to emphasize the distinct nature of each team.

“I urge Ghanaians to watch the complete video of the interview, as it provides a comprehensive context to the statements I made,” the chairperson for the Black Queens management committee said.

Madam Gifty Oware-Mensah said she believes that a thorough review of the interview will reveal a more accurate understanding of her perspectives on both the Black Queens and the Black Stars.
