I hope Tariq Lamptey gets game time next season - Black Stars coach Chris Hughton

Ghana coach, Chris Hughton says he hopes Tariq Lamptey gets more game time ahead of the 2023/24 Premier League campaign.

The 23-year-old was sidelined at the latter part of last season having suffered an injury against West Ham.

The injury also kept Lamptey out of Ghana's matchday five games against Madagascar in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers in June.

However, the former Chelsea right-back made a return against Newcastle United in the Premier League Series which was wrapped over the weekend in the USA.

Lamptey was linked to Sporting Lisbon but seems the deal will not materialize.

Speaking on what he expects from the promising defender, Hughton said he hopes the Ghana international stays fit and gets more game time under Roberto De Zerbi.

"Tariq Lamptey had a wonderful start at Brighton and it was a pleasure watching but he could not finish the season due to an injury," he told talkSPORTS.

"He was out in the latter part of last season but has got a good coach (Roberto De Zerbi) who has a good squad so I am hoping he can get game time because he needs that because he is still young," he added.

Tariq Lamptey switched nationality to play for Ghana ahead of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and despite the country's early exit, Lamptey produced some good performances.

He is expected to return to the Black Stars squad in the final round of games against the Central African Republic (CAR) in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) next month.
