Legendary Ghanaian footballer Ibrahim Sunday revealed he was on the brink of turning his back on football as a youngster until a twist of fate changed his fortunes.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with FootballMadeInGhana.com, the 1971 Africa Footballer of the Year shared an incredible story about his father almost made him quit football.

However the Ex Kotoko playmaker believes it was this event that led him to finding the form that would catapult him to fame.

”In the beginning my father didn’t want me to play football. One day he called me and told me he didn’t like how everyone was talking about me and that I should stop playing football because he thinks there’s too much pressure in the game” he told Footballmadeinghana.com

“I agreed to quit but pleaded with him to let me take a break for one year instead and then continue with my career”

“At this point, one of his friends who was present during the discussion interceded on my behalf and convinced my dad to give me his blessing and take a chance on my football career”

”My dad agreed and said ‘may Allah bless you, go and play your football’, since then he was 100% behind me. This is how it all really started”

Ibrahim Sunday went on to become one of the most decorated Ghanaian footballers and coaches in history.
