Ghana international, Inaki Williams, has spoken out against racist abuse aimed at his brother Nico Williams by Atletico Madrid fans.

Nico was subjected to racial slurs during Athletic Bilbao's match at the Metropolitano Stadium in La Liga on Saturday evening.

The game was momentarily stopped due to the reported racist chants directed at Nico by some Atletico Madrid supporters.

Inaki, defending his brother who also plays for the Spanish National Team, condemned the actions and expressed frustration over the incident.

“My brother does everything the best he can on the field. He enjoys making people who watch him happy and I have not understood why people criminalize him,” the 29-year-old said, as quoted by Citi Sports.

“I think that those whistles should be directed at the people who said those insults and not at the victim. No.”

He added: “It’s not the first time it has happened. In these types of things, we have to build together not only in football but in a good world in which these types of actions cannot be tolerated.

“I think this scourge has to end. I think that in the end, people have to understand that it is not easy to put up with this type of insult.”

Despite the incident, Bilbao suffered a 3-1 defeat, impacting their chances of qualifying for the Champions League.

The Williams brothers recently led Athletic Bilbao to their first Copa Del Rey title in 40 years.
